NIH Office of Intramural Training & Education: Scientists Teaching Science

Are you interested in learning the basics of successful teaching? Are you thinking about a career in education? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, consider signing up for the OITE workshop, "Scientists Teaching Science: An Introduction to Best Practices in Science Education." The workshop will provide an introduction to learning styles, teaching philosophies, and course development for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. This workshop is a prerequisite for admission to the in-depth pedagogy course that is offered by the OITE in the spring.

Speaker: Barbara Houtz, a nationally-recognized teacher with over 13 years' experience in training teachers.

Date/Time/Location: November 13, 2009

This month Scientists Teaching Science will be offered for one session on the Bethesda Campus and for one session at the Baltimore Campus for trainees in the Baltimore duty station area. See below for times.

Bethesda Campus: 9:00 pm – 11:00 am

Baltimore Campus: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

*** REGISTER IN ADVANCE *** Registration is on a first come, first served basis, if your registration to the workshop is confirmed you will receive an admissions confirmation containing details and location information. This workshop is in high demand and there is a possibility that you may receive a wait list notification.

We are seeking additional writers for the Informer newsletter. In addition, we are seeking someone to help out with designing, updating, and maintaining the newsletter website. This person should have a basic understanding of HTML and will work alongside Nicholas Noinaj as a co-Webmaster. Working for the newsletter is a great opportunity to gain valuable writing experience and is an excellent way to serve your NIDDK and NIH community!
