History of the Informer Newsletter
by Anna Burkart, Editor-in-Chief

In September 2008, Rasika Kalamegham (LCDB) founded and started editing a monthly newsletter for NIDDK fellows, the NIDDK Fellows Newsletter. The purpose of the newsletter was to provide NIDDK fellows with information related to career development events, training opportunities, awards and additionally, to upcoming social gatherings with other fellows in coordination with FelCom and GSC.

In December 2008, Anna Burkart (LCDB) became the new Editor-in-Chief and with this change in editorship, the newsletter acquired a fresh layout and design. In addition to the new look, the newsletter advertised a “Naming and Logo Contest” for NIDDK fellows and in February 2009, Nicholas Noinaj provided the winning entry, and thus, the newsletter became ‘The DDK Informer’. The Informer Website was also created by Nicholas Noinaj and went live in May 2009.

We are a dynamic group of volunteers and always looking for new members to donate their time and talent to help the NIDDK Fellows community. While our newsletter is still young (less than a year old), we have already established the newsletter as a useful source for DDK fellows, reporting on monthly meetings, events, social activities, and career opportunities.

If you happen to have a talent that you think would assist our newsletter, or simply want to practice writing, etc, please contact me (burkarta@mail.nih.gov ) for more information about joining our team!
